How inDriver is different from Careem and Uber

This article will describe the differences between inDriver and their competitors Uber and Careem. There are multiple differences that are worth consideration so let's dive into the details.

Business model

Careem and Uber work on an AI-based algorithm that gives a price for traveling from point A to point B depending on factors such as Time, Distance, and Ride booking fee that varies depending on the type of ride i.e Go, Go mini, Business, etc. Furthermore, Uber charges 25% commission from all partners, and Careem charges 20% commission. Careem was initially paying Bonuses based on ride target completion but during the pandemic, they stopped, and in the meanwhile many drivers switched to other options and now they have reportedly started offering Bonuses again.

On the other hand, inDriver gives liberty to negotiate the fare between captains and the user which allows both of them to use the service as per their choice. Although they suggest an approximation fare so users can estimate for offering your fare. inDriver claims to not charge any commission but 9.5% have charges (basically it is a commission) but it's significantly lower as compared to other ride-hailing services.

Discounts

Careem and Uber initially offered a lot of discounts such as for universities, hospitals, cinemas, malls, etc. But now the only discounts available are the ones through your credit/debit cards of partner banks.

In 2019 Careem started packages for loyal customers but now they're no longer available for the users.

inDriver never offered any discounts as of yet.

Payments

Careem and Uber have card-based payment options as well as an app wallet to store the money you pay over the exact fare.

However, inDriver does not offer any of the above features in times when the world is moving towards cashless solutions. (I'd love to see these options).

Overall fare differences

Fare is really an important factor to decide which app is better than the other.

Uber has mostly fixed fare that doesn't change if you're stuck in traffic so if the estimated fare is 200 it will remain 200 unless you have kept the driver waiting or you take an alternate path.

Careem doesn't have a fixed fare, its fare often changes under conditions such as time, distance, and waiting time.

inDriver fare only changes if you have kept the driver waiting for more than 5 minutes.

Analysis

Uber is up to 5% cheaper than Careem and inDriver is up to 20% cheaper in case of short rides and up to 15% in case of long rides. (These analyses are just based on my experiences.)

Conclusion

If you are someone who wants to be traveling cashless best option is Careem. For traveling urgently in rush hours Uber is the best option and inDriver is best if you're willing to have an economic ride and have time to negotiate with drivers. The addition of new competitors is always good for the consumer as everyone gives their best to keep customers happy.
